Tajweed

Tajweed is giving every letter its due: its point of articulation, the makhraj, and its qualities, the sifat — and then its due in context: madd, ghunnah, idgham, ikhfa’ and qalqalah.

It is not an ornament added to the recitation. The scholars of this science treat reciting without it as a shortcoming, because it is the manner in which the Qur’an was received.

And it is learned by ear. A teacher who listens each week corrects in a minute what a book cannot settle in ten pages.
